Resonance Chapter 4 First Trial Puzzle Guide
Solve the Resonance First Trial fast with the three pedestal symbols, mirror route, floor maze inputs, spike paths and Minotaur arena code method.
On this page+
Use Light Reveal throughout Chapter 4's First Trial: the first pedestals are Y, C, and an upward arrow from left to right, while the floor maze uses the insect symbol on the left and the T-like symbol on the right. The rest of the Trial follows the same rule: reveal the clue first, then direct the Sphere, dial, or mirror to its receiver. This guide keeps the answers in encounter order so you can stop as soon as your current door opens.
Get Light Reveal before solving anything
At the First Trial entrance, clear the soldiers and interact with the gilded pedestal inside. Sophia places the Key Sphere there and unlocks Light Reveal. The ability exposes blue markings that remain invisible under normal light, including the routes that identify symbol answers and safe spike tiles.
Use Light Reveal as a reading tool, not as a last resort. Sweep it across the floor, walls, statue rings, and symbols whenever the room contains more than one possible input. The visual clue explains why an answer works, which is much safer than memorising a shape name from a guide when a later room uses a similar rune.
First door answer: Y, C, upward arrow
The opening door has three pedestals, each with a blue path leading to its intended mark. Reveal the paths and follow them from the mechanisms to the symbols on the wall. From left to right, set the dials to Y, C, and the upward arrow.
Put each symbol in place deliberately and wait for it to lock before moving to the next pedestal. The door opens only after all three inputs are correct at the same time. If the shapes look ambiguous, trace the source pedestal's own blue line instead of relying on the order alone.
Second door: make a zigzag with the mirrors
This room routes one beam around chained blocks to a golden dial on the locked door. Start by climbing the stairs above the entrance and standing on the pressure plate, which reveals the source. Once Leni takes over the plate, return to the lower mirrors and work from the first lit reflector outward.
Aim the left reflector at the mirror on the right. Turn that mirror to pass the light to the next mirror on the left, then angle the final reflector into the door's golden dial. Do not try to send the beam straight across the room, because the chained blocks deliberately block that route.
When the dial lights, the door opens and the route continues to a short fight. If it does not react, inspect the beam after every bounce rather than rotating all mirrors again. One dark reflector tells you exactly where the chain has been broken.
Floor maze symbols: insect left, T-like right
The third door has two rotating dials beside a round floor maze. Stand where the maze is easiest to see and use Light Reveal to uncover its lines and the five runes around it. Each dial has one glowing path through the maze, and the rune at the end of that path gives the correct answer.
Set the left pedestal to the insect or bug symbol, an oval shape with four lines. Facing the locked gate, set the right pedestal to the angular T-like symbol, sometimes described as an F depending on the viewing angle. Rotate both into the top position under the golden arches before expecting the door to respond.
A fiery line beside the door confirms the input and a group of soldiers arrives, including a Brute-type enemy. Clear the room before progressing, because rushing past the fight can make it harder to see the new route. The Chapter 4 walkthrough explains how this room fits into the wider chapter route.
First spike routes: read the tiles in sections
The first spike rooms are a sequence of short safe-tile problems. Use Light Reveal on the marks and compare them with Sophia's notebook if you need to check the clue again. The initial routes are: a straight route beginning on the left plate, then a route starting on the right that goes two tiles up before turning left, followed by the socket marked with two triangles.
Move one confirmed section at a time. The purpose is not to sprint across a pattern you barely saw, but to turn the revealed sequence into a safe route. If you lose the markings, reset your view, use the Sphere again, and repeat the last confirmed section instead of gambling on a diagonal shortcut.
The large spike chamber and the Kopis route
In the larger chamber, Leni's mirror lets the Sphere reveal a blue path across the traps. Some of that path is hidden by scenery, so count the tiles in every visible piece before stepping into a dark interval. Stay calm and reproduce the observed number of moves; the room rewards steady reading rather than speed.
After the route, the skull pedestal opens the way to a tomb. Go down, open the large chest, and take the Kopis Blade before crawling through the opening behind it. This is a useful detour for both the Chapter 4 counter and the Plunderer/Adaptable completion goals.
Minotaur arena: solve three pairs, not one image
The Trial ends with an arena mechanism after a vision and combat segment. Look at the blue floor markings to identify the first two pairs of symbols, then use the mirrors to light the matching pair on the surrounding walls. Each correct pair lowers one of the Minotaur's arms.
Once both arms are down, use Light Reveal on the rings now exposed on the statue's hands. They reveal the third two-symbol code, whose marks belong on the same wall. Light that pair, raise the Minotaur, and follow the new route after the Sphere pedestal appears.
The useful habit is to write down or consult Sophia's recorded pairs before touching a mirror. A missing wall symbol is not a random guess: compare it with the floor pair that aligns to that wall. When all three pairs register, the game gives a clear structural response instead of leaving you to infer whether the mechanism worked.
Common First Trial mistakes
Players often rotate a pedestal before activating Light Reveal, then assume a symbol puzzle is bugged because every option seems plausible. Others find the mirror source but overlook the golden dial that proves whether the final bounce is correct. In spike rooms, moving while the safe route is only partly visible is more dangerous than taking a moment to count tiles.
The clean solution is always the same: reveal the clue, identify what is being controlled, and watch for the receiver's response. If a solved puzzle has not advanced the objective, wait for companion dialogue, clear the required enemies, and inspect any highlighted pedestal. Combat difficulty settings can reduce pressure, but they will not change an unfinished interaction into a completed puzzle.
